Leaning chimney
The owners of this house was concerned that the chimney, which had started leaning, would collapse onto their roof.
- Site visit conducted
- Cause found to be works to neighbour’s roof
- Recommended chimney was part removed and rebuilt
- Recommended other parts could be repointed without reconstruction
- Supplied report with photos, findings and recommendations
Litigation for builders’ neglect
After a loft conversion resulted in signs of structural issues, we were called in to inspect the works.
- Structural beams were found to have been installed directly onto party walls, causing cracks.
- The builders had been asked to install the beams onto dedicated structure beside the party wall.
- Measured and analysed the cracks and rest of structure.
- Concluded that the cracks and the incorrect loading were not significant or dangerous and could be filled. No legal case against the builders was filed by the customer.
Vertical crack in party wall
We were asked to inspect a crack in a Victorian house on Daubeney Road.
- Conducted a site visit to assess and measure the crack and inspect the house and ground type
- Found that the crack was behaving as a movement joint owing to foundation movement caused by tree root growth
- Recommended a specific movement joint method repair and tree control work to minimise further foundation movement
