Cracks in a listed building
The client was the owner of this boundary wall, and was understandably concerned about these cracks. He had instructed a builder, but the builder had said he didn’t want to attempt to fix the wall without input from a Structural Engineer. He recommended Abbott Holliday to the client and we were instructed soon afterwards.

- Diagnosed the root cause and prepared report for the client

Reinforcement corrosion
Most of the balconies on this block of flats in Bexhill were showing the classic signs of corrosion, which is very common in balconies of a certain age. The danger is that the balcony will one day collapse, which is more likely to happen when several people are standing on them (e.g. at a party). The owner was concerned and wanted to know her options.
- We visited and did a full survey of the affected areas
- Inspected balconies not yet showing signs of reinforcement corrosion

- The client was able to instruct her builder to make necessary repairs
Historic wall survey
We were asked to conduct a survey on this historic wall, which was showing signs of dilapidation. There had been some ground movement and mortar erosion, and some of the buttresses were in urgent need of repair to ensure the structural stability of the wall was maintained.
