Part-Time Chartered Structural Engineer Role in South East England

“Every engineer here is chartered. No trainees above you, no account managers between you and the client, no bureaucracy slowing you down. Just interesting work, genuine autonomy, and colleagues who are excellent at what they do.”

ABOUT ABBOTT HOLLIDAY PARTNERSHIP

We are one of the South-East’s longest-established chartered structural engineering consultancies — founded in 1978, and operating for 48 years without a single professional indemnity claim. Our all-chartered team works across London and the South-East on a genuinely varied caseload: domestic defect inspections, heritage listed buildings, complex subsidence investigations, and expert witness instructions for litigation. We are growing — opening new offices across the region — and we want talented engineers alongside us.

THE ROLE

Part-time, self-employed, home-based with site visits across your region. You’ll manage your own caseload with support from a collaborative team and a thorough peer-review process. The work is diagnostically interesting and professionally rewarding — no two weeks are the same.

  • Clear, conclusive, client-ready written reports — peer reviewed before issue
  • Opportunity to develop expert witness reports — full training provided
  • Reports and drawings peer reviewed before issue
  • Direct relationships with clients and architects — you are the expert, never a middleman
  • Opportunity for structural design for residential extensions, loft conversions, and commercial alterations

  • Excellent written English — you produce reports clients use to make major decisions
  • Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle, unless using public transport eg inner London
  • Self-motivated and comfortable managing a remote caseload

DESIRABLE – WE CAN DEVELOP THE RIGHT PERSON:

  • Expert witness or litigation support experience
  • Experience with listed or historic building assessments
  • Structural design software — TEDDS, Tekla, AutoCAD ot other software
  • Business development interest or client-facing experience
  • Experience managing or mentoring junior staff

  • Home-based with no daily commute
  • CPD support eg Expert witness training and courses for career development
