Ground work design
We specialise in ground work design including basements, paving, and underground drainage systems, ensuring stability and proper structural integration. Our Chartered Structural Engineers assess site conditions and provide detailed designs and reports for your project needs.
Basements
We work with clients on the structural aspects of basements in existing buildings only. We are occasionally asked to provide for damp-proofing, but we refer you to speak with damp specialists for this, as there are many factors to consider, many of which are outside the scope of a Structural Engineer. For your basement project, there are many factors to consider such as lateral forces and their interaction with downward forces from above. Our design will take these factors into account and we will also provide you with calculations for building regs sign-off. Please call us today to discuss your project.

Design of underground drainage systems and surface drainage
Getting the design of drainage systems correct is critical because not only must waste water and surface run-off be removed from your site quickly, but if it’s not done right, any resulting leakage, blockage or overflow can cause structural problems for your building. For example, water seepage from damaged drains can cause the ground to swell, causing heave damage to your foundations. Also if the drainage system is being planned for a site that has had historical ground movement, or there are new building developments nearby, the drainage system must be designed to take these factors into account. As well as being experts at designing underground drainage systems and surface drainage, we can also inspect and analyse existing systems that are showing signs of being defective.
Paving design
When planning paving projects, you need to be aware of your ground type and geology. There may also be localised ground movement or impact from local trees. There may also be a nearby structure like a retaining wall, and the project may be further complicated if you predict there will be heavy vehicle use. To plan your paving project correctly, please call us to discuss how we can help. Without the correct advice or design considerations, there is a risk that the paving area in question will suffer structural defects and will need to be re-built.
